Art is Everywhere...in a film
I love it when I see some abstract art in a movie or on a tv sit com.
I always wonder who the artist is and how they got their art on a show.
It is possible that non-artists don't even notice it. Often, I will point it
out to fellow show watchers and they never seemed to have noticed it,
unless they also are an artist or art student. I'm sure art academia would
notice as well, although I have never watched a sit-com with any of them.
I work in an art theatre so I have never mentioned this to anyone there as
most of them have performed themselves or been film makers and they
do notice much more about a film, than I, Many of them are looking more at
the technical issues, the cgi, the anime, the editing, or the overall story and how it is
played out vs a book or another film. Some are listening to the sound track, the music
and exploring how they might have done it. Each type of artist has their own
area of expertise and I guess we each come to the films with our own perspective
of what matters to us, with an eye to what might appeal to the audiences as well.
It's all art anyway. We love it all! Visual arts, film, tv, music, photography, the story,
the rhythm, the dance, the movement of all the parts, the poetry brought to life,
the flow of the writing and for me the color scheme and the costumes, the lighting,
the background and any artistic pieces used on the film. See you at the movies.
