Everyday should feel like a Saturday. 

Everyday should feel like a Fun Day.

Today is National Cinema Day.

Many theaters are offering $3. tickets.

The Nickelodeon is participating.





Just a block away on Main St Columbia, SC

Is the Columbia Museum of Art.

Right now they are showing Impressionistic Paintings

often inspired by the artists of Giverny

the museum included some American artists

that either visited the area or lived there, temporarily.

American artists have often been inspired by 

European art trends and artistic styles.



Myself included, I studied impressionism with 

the late Ilona Royce Smithken. She just passed this year.

A tiny woman of less than five foot, but a giant in artistic style.

At 101 years old, she left hundreds of students and fans.

She achieved something few will, just by living to 101.

Ilona, had a tv show on SCETV in the late 70's and 80's, 

which also aired a few times during the 90's.

I loved painting with Ilona, her insights brightened my palette

and her style will always show through, just a little, in everything I do.

She had a profound effect on my life and that of many artists 

in SC, NY, and of course in Provincetown, and Cape Cod, MA.

ArtJeanee explains with a smile

 H ello,   it has been a long time and so much has happened in recent years. No one blog could contain it all. It could be a book. (maybe) Speaking of books, I did put together a book during the pandemic. My mom is also an artist and had always wanted to author a book. Over the years with numerous cross-country moves much of what she wrote during her life had been lost, however she had been doing paintings with her senior center, so that is the book I made for her. She wrote three short stories for it, that reflect where she is now, not where she was. Anyhow, it was an interesting experience to publish a book for mom. I learned a lot and may do one (or more) for myself at some point. Since I graduated in Dec. 2019 with my BFA, the pandemic hit, and I had to roll with the times. I learned a lot about Bitcoin, Ethereum and NFTs. In fact, I had started a series of artworks that are coffee mandalas, specifically to make a series of NFTs. Juried Art Shows

  copyright by Jean Bourque The month of October has two art shows where I have art that has been juried into it.  FIRST "LEAF IN THE WIND" We have the SC State Fair, in which I entered a mixed media painting on paper and professionally framed under glass. It can be seen in the Professional Division in the Mixed Media aisles. The painting is of a leaf blown up and painted with lots of colors and decorated with care. The SC State Fair grounds are located off  south Assembly St. Columbia, SC. The Fair runs from Oct. 12 to Oct. 23, 2022.  This framed piece is available for sale.  NEXT "STILLHOUSE" We have the Rosewood Arts Festival at 910 Holly St.  (off Rosewood Dr.) Columbia, SC on Saturday October 15, 2022. 11-6pm My painting has been juried in to the Pop up tent show and is in the running for People's Choice, so if you like it, please be sure to vote for my painting while at the festival.
